Is it too early to seek legal advice?

When something goes wrong at work, many people hesitate before speaking to a lawyer.

You might think:

  • Maybe it’ll sort itself out.
  • It’s probably not serious enough.
  • I don’t want to escalate things.

These reactions are completely normal.

When is it not too early?

It’s rarely too early to understand your position.

Seeking legal advice doesn’t mean:

  • You’re committing to taking action
  • You’re starting a tribunal claim
  • You’re threatening your employer.

It simply means you’re gathering information.

In fact, getting clarity early can sometimes prevent situations from escalating.

When you understand your rights, deadlines, and options, you’re in a stronger position to make calm, informed decisions.

When might it genuinely be too early?

If you haven’t yet raised a concern internally or clarified what has happened, it may make sense to take a little time first.

But if:

  • Your role feels at risk.
  • A formal process has started, like a disciplinary or redundancy.
  • You’re being treated unfairly
  • You’re being pressured into signing something.

Then understanding your options sooner rather than later is often helpful.

Others felt like this too

Tracy said in a Google review:

“I am glad that I sought assistance with this matter as it not only took away the stress of having to deal with the matter myself but also achieved a higher value settlement figure than I anticipated.”

And Jay put on TrustPilot:

“Many told me not to bother, the union weren’t interested despite the evidence, I felt so alone. I am so glad I did bother, Monaco helped get me some justice, my pride back, I felt like I had an army of knowledge behind me.”

Be mindful of timing

Employment claims can only be pursued up until a certain time.

This is often six months less one day from the date of the incident, or three months less one day if the incident happened before 1st October 2026. See our post on ‘Employment Tribunal Claims Time Limits 1st October 2026‘.

So it’s better to speak to us sooner rather than later.
